Month in review - March 2004

The month of March proved to be a month of confusion for the plastic material market in China. By the end of the month, prices seemed to have stabilized after weeks of falling; but people were still pessimistic because of the PET situation. The ban of PET bottles import sees no sign of being lifted soon, and importers are still paying hefty storage charges for the thousands of containers stuck in Hong Kong. The general tightening of plastic scrap import is increasing the time and costs resulting in continued depressed prices. Into April, the main concern now is the possible price drop in PE film because of the arrival of the low season.
